Jesse Byrd

    Volunteer Assistant
A former student and graduate assistant with the program, Jesse Byrd enters his first season as a volunteer assistant on the Cal U coaching staff.

Byrd will serve as an assistant secondary coach and video coordinator after spending last year working with linebackers as a graduate assistant. He previously worked three years as a student quality control coach and assisted with the safeties.

While with the Vulcans, Byrd has aided the defensive staff in the press box on gamedays, served as a video coordinator, managed all aspects of film utilizing HUDL, served as the on-campus pro liaison for NFL scouts and help evaluate recruits.

Byrd served as an intern in the operations and player personnel department of the Buffalo Bills during the 2014 training camp in Rochester, New York. He wrote scouting reports on assigned players, executed daily operations of training camp and assisted in monitoring daily transactions throughout the NFL.

A native of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Byrd was a three-sport athlete at Greensburg Salem, competing in football, track & field and wrestling. He later started his coaching career at his alma mater, as he worked with the Golden Lion wide receivers and secondary in 2010.

Byrd earned his undergraduate degree from Cal U in sport management in 2013 before finishing his master’s degree this summer in exercise science and health promotion with a concentration in performance enhancement and injury prevention.
