A former player in both divisions within the PSAC, David Carney Jr. enters his first season on the Cal U coaching staff and will be working with linebackers and special teams.

Carney joined the Vulcans for his senior year after previously playing three seasons at Bloomsburg. Last year, he played in all 11 games as the long snapper at Cal U. Carney appeared in over 20 games with the Huskies from 2015-17 and was also named captain of the special teams.

Following last season, Carney participated in both The National Bowl and The Spirit of America Bowl. The National Bowl was held in December in Daytona Beach, Florida, and he was a member of the American Team led by Matt DIniak, who is the head coach of a professional arena team in Arkansas. The following month, Carney played in The Spirt of America Bowl in Salem, Virginia.

A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Carney also participated in The Spring League Showcase this summer in California.

Carney earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Bloomsburg in 2018 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree from Cal U in secondary education with a concentration in biology.
