Dave Cole begins his ninth season as a member of the coaching staff at Cal U, serving as the secondary coach and recruiting coordinator.
While with the Vulcans, Cole mentored Tommie Campbell, who was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft, as well as All-American Terrence Johnson, who started two games with the Indianapolis Colts last season.
Cal U has led the PSAC in interceptions in five of the last seven seasons. Last year, the Vulcans tied for second in the league with 20 interceptions by 12 different players.
In 2007, the Vulcans were the top-ranked defense in the nation and led the PSAC with 18 interceptions behind the play of All-PSAC West First-Team cornerbacks Johnson and Dionte Henry. The success of the secondary in 2007 was preceded by back-to-back seasons with 20 and 21 interceptions by the team in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
Cole is a former four-year player and two-year starter for the Vulcans. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 2004 before finishing his master’s degree in geography and regional planning at Cal in 2006.
A native of Cincinnati, Cole was a first-team league all-star and earned all-city honors as a defensive back at Winton Woods High School.
Cole and his wife Sharron have one daughter, Saniya.
