An eight-year veteran of the Arena Football League (AFL), Chad Salisbury begins his seventh season as quarterbacks coach with Cal U.
During his time with the Vulcans, he has coached three All-PSAC West quarterbacks in Josh Portis, Peter Lalich and James Harris. Portis finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in touchdown passes and Lalich finished fourth all-time in school history in passing yards and touchdowns.
Salisbury played with five teams during his AFL career before finishing his career after the 2007 season with the Grand Rapids Rampage. In his final two seasons in the AFL, he threw for over a combined 5,000 yards and 100 touchdowns.
Prior to his successful professional career, Salisbury was a two-year letterman at Buffalo after transferring from New Mexico State. In his first season with the Bulls, he established then-school records for completions, attempts, passing yards and total offense. Salisbury finished his two-year career at Buffalo with over 4,900 passing yards and 31 touchdowns.
He started his coaching career at his high school alma mater Frazier High School, serving as an assistant for current Cal U wide receivers coach/special teams coordinator Larry Wilson. Salisbury resumed coaching in the off-season of his professional career at Byron Center High School in Michigan.
Salisbury was hired as the quarterbacks/wide receivers coach for the Los Angeles Avengers before the AFL cancelled the 2009 season.
Salisbury earned his degree in communication from Buffalo and completed his master’s degree in sport management from Cal U.
