In conjunction with the 2010 Cal U Cross Country Camp, we are pleased to announce that  Dr. Joe Vigil, Joe Newton, and Roger Kingdom will be speaking to high school athletes on Thursday, August 5 and coaches on Friday, August 6 in Steele Auditorium and Keystone 205 (respectively).

Joe Vigil
Dr. Joe Vigil - World Renowned Distance Coach

Coach Vigil has been a US Olympic distance coach since 1988 during which time he has coached Olympic medalists and over 100 National Champions.  One of the founders of the USATF coaching education program, Coach Vigil has received 11 Hall of Fame and 14 National Coach of the Year awards. On several occasions he has served as head coach of the US World Cross Country teams.  He has lectured on 6 continents and is considered be one of the greatest US distances coaches in history!

Joe Newton
Joe Newton - Head Cross Country Coach of York HS, Elmhurst, Illinois

Coach Newton, star of "The Long Green Line", has led the boys of York HS to 26-state titles, and 20-National titles.  Back in 1988 he was the first high school coach ever assigned as a manager for the US Olympic team.  On countless occasions, Coach Newton has been voted Coach of the Year in addition to receiving 12 Hall of Fame awards.  Coach Newton is an unbelievable speaker who has written four books, concentrating on training and motivation, and we're excited to have him at Cal U this summer.  The movie "The Long Green Line", which documents Coach Newton's 2005 boy's team, has become a must-watch for any distance runner and in turn has propelled the 80-year old Coach Newton to international running fame.

Roger Kingdom
Roger Kingdom - Camp Speaker and Director of Cal U Track & Field/XC

2 Olympic Gold medals, 4 Olympic Records, 1 World Record, 1 World Championship, and the list goes on! Kingdom is arguably the greatest hurdler ever, and now he is leading Cal U's track & field teams in the same direction. In 2008 he coached Calu U athletes to 9 All-America Awards and multiple conference titles.  Coach Kingdom will talk about his amazing journey of success which never ceases to inspire young and old!

top distance coaches on August 5 & 6.
