Women's Soccer drops season-opener at Clarion

Rexroad makes four saves in first career start; Golden Eagles finish with a plus-10 shot advantage

CLARION, Pa. (Aug. 29) – Following a scoreless first half, the Vulcans allowed a pair of goals in just over an eight-minute span to suffer a 2-0 season-opening loss at Clarion on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

NOTES
• California (0-1, 0-1) opened the year with a conference game for the first time since the 2016 campaign.
• The teams combined for eight shots in the first half and the Golden Eagles added two more shots in the opening three-plus minutes of the second half.
• Clarion took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute and added an insurance goal at the 59:01-mark, capping a flurry of three attempts in just under two minutes.
• The Golden Eagles finished the game with a 16-6 shot advantage after attempting 10 shots in the second half.
• Freshman Kaleigh Rexroad made four saves while making her first career start.

NEXT
• The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when they face Pitt-Johnstown in their home opener at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility at 5 p.m.
