NEWBERRY, S.C. (March 7) – The Vulcans dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader at Newberry (SC) on Friday afternoon, being dealt a 3-1 loss in Game 1 before falling by a 4-0 margin in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (2-6) opened its spring trip with a pair of doubleheaders against South Atlantic Conference (SAC) members.
• The Vulcans were playing a twinbill on back-to-back days in different states, as they competed in North Carolina yesterday.
• Cal will continue its trip down the Atlantic Coast with games in Florida and Virginia.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans tied the score at 1-1 with a solo homer in the fourth before the Wolves scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
• Freshman designated player
Alexa Edmunds belted a solo homer and senior
Jenna Hollerich collected a pair of hits from the leadoff spot.
• Cal left a pair of runners in scoring position in the first before Newberry scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning.
• Edmunds belted her first career homer with two outs in the fourth to tie the score, 1-1.
• In the fifth, Newberry scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded before adding another run on a sacrifice fly.
• Freshman
Indyana Bolyea (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (all earned) on one hit and four walks.
• Classmate
Autumn Bielecki worked 2.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.
GAME 2
• Cal forced Newberry to leave the bases loaded in the second before the Wolves took a 2-0 lead on a double in the third inning.
• The Vulcans collected back-to-back singles in the top of the fourth before later stranding a pair of runners in the sixth.
• Newberry added to the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double with two outs, 4-0.
• Bolyea reached base four times (two hits, two walks) while starting at second base.
• Sophomore right fielder
Kirra Davis also posted a pair of hits against Newberry.
• Freshman
Abigail Singer (1-1) was saddled with the loss after yielding two runs (both earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

• The Vulcans continue their southern trip with six games in Florida at THE Spring Games, starting on Monday, March 9 against Point Park and Glenville State.
