WASHINGTON, Pa. (March 28) – The Vulcans completed a season sweep against Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at EQT Park, winning 7-1 in Game 1 and 9-4 in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (16-7, 7-1) has won nine of the last 10 meetings against Lock Haven dating back to the 2020 season.
• Freshman center fielder
Charlie Nigut collected six hits, four RBI and five runs scored in the doubleheader.
• Nigut finished the four-game sweep with a combined 10 hits, eight RBI, nine runs scored, three walks and five steals.
• Senior right fielder
Connor Evans tallied four hits, three RBI and two runs scored on Saturday.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans scored a pair of runs in each of the opening two innings and held the Bald Eagles to just three hits.
• NIgut posted three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while redshirt freshman center fielder
Chad Helwich scored twice.
• In the bottom of the first, junior designated hitter
Ikon Jones delivered a two-run single.
• NIgut and Evans recorded back-to-back RBI singles with two outs in the second, 4-1.
• Cal scored on a sacrifice fly in both the third and fourth innings before Nigut collected an RBI single in the sixth.
• Sophomore
Coleman Fletcher (2-0) earned the win after allowing one run (earned) on one hit and four walks over 5.0 innings (77 pitches).
GAME 2
• Cal forced Lock Haven to leave nine runners on base, including six in scoring position.
• Nigut collected three hits, two RBI, three runs scored and one walk.
• Evans added three hits, one RBI and one run scored, while junior catcher
Kyle Rizzo recorded three RBI.
• Both teams scored one run in the first before the Vulcans added four runs in the second after five-straight batters reached to start the inning.
• Helwich collected a bases-loaded single and Nigut followed with a two-run single.
• Cal later added a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, 6-2.
• In the sixth, Nigut led off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Evans.
• Rizzo later delivered a two-run single in the sixth to give the Vulcans a 9-4 lead.
• Senior
Roman Gill (3-1) earned the win after yielding two runs (both earned) on four hits and three walks in 4.0 innings (74 pitches).

• The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, March 31, when they host a nine-inning contest against Wheeling at EQT Park in non-conference play.
