SALEM, W.Va. (March 1) – The Vulcans posted a doubleheader sweep at Salem on Sunday afternoon with
Kristin Erb earning her first victories as a head coach following a 4-2 win in Game 1 and a 3-1 extra-inning victory in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (2-2) was playing its first road game against Salem in more than 15 years.
• Erb spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Marist (NY).
• As a player, she set the all-time record in NCAA Division II with 168 victories and 1,240.7 innings pitched.
GAME 1
• Freshman
Abigail Singer (1-1) earned her first collegiate victory after yielding two runs (both earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts over 6.1 innings (56 pitches).
• Senior
Cheyenne Beayon retired the final two outs to record the save.
• In the fifth, senior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich led off with a triple before scoring on a two-out RBI single by freshman left fielder
Savanna Benish.
• The Vulcans added to the lead in the sixth on a three-run homer by sophomore catcher
Kirra Davis.
• Salem countered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer by Kendall Lemely, 4-2.
• In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers collected back-to-back singles with one out before Beayon retired the next two batters to close the game.
• Senior center fielder
Mikayla Linkous collected a pair of hits in the victory.
GAME 2
• Freshman
Autumn Bielecki (1-0) recorded the win after working 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.
• She allowed just one hit and issued two walks while tallying five strikeouts.
• Classmate
Indyana Bolyea took a no-decision after allowing one run (earned) on three hits over 4.1 innings in the start.
• Cal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Davis before Salem countered with a bases-loaded single in the fifth.
• In the eighth, freshman third baseman
Makayla Jerin collected a go-ahead, two-run double.
• Sophomore second baseman
Amarah McCutcheon posted a pair of hits and one run scored.

• The Vulcans return to action next weekend with a pair of road doubleheader, starting on Friday, March 6, against Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, North Carolina.
