LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Feb. 16) – Behind his impressive play in two wins last week, California (PA) redshirt junior Bryson Lucas was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Lucas averaged a double-double with 19.0 points and 10.5 rebounds, along with 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, as the Vulcans earned a pair of victories in divisional action. He also tallied 3.0 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the field. Lucas posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, along with one block and two steals, on Wednesday in an 83-48 win at Seton Hill. The West Virginia native helped the Vulcans hold the Griffins to a season-low 48 points and just a .333 field-goal percentage (22-of-66). Lucas closed the week with 24 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals in a 103-86 victory over Clarion on Saturday.

In his second year as a starter, Lucas ranks seventh in the PSAC in scoring at 17.3 points per game and second with 7.83 rebounds per game. He also sits fourth in the league with 2.04 steals per game and sixth with 1.17 blocks per game while playing 34.3 minutes per game. Lucas has registered eight double-doubles this season and has scored at least 20 points nine times.

Lucas received the weekly league defensive honor for the third time in his career and his first time this season. He previously garnered PSAC West Athlete of the Week laurels twice this year and was chosen as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Player of the Week earlier this month.

The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they travel to face Pitt-Johnston in PSAC West action at 7:30 p.m. Cal has already clinched a berth in next month's PSAC Tournament with four games remaining in the regular season.
