Jordyn Buchanan was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Buchanan averaged 24.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game, as the Vulcans posted a pair of home victories in PSAC Crossover action over the weekend to start the new calendar year. He shot a combined 57.1 percent from the floor (16-of-28), including a .412 clip (7-of-17) from beyond the arc, while playing 34.5 minutes per game. Buchanan scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting in a 91-72 win over East Stroudsburg on Friday. The Florida native also collected six rebounds and six assists against the Warriors, which had won the previous six meetings in the series that dated back over a decade. The following day, Buchanan scored 22 points behind six three-pointers and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 91-68 victory against Kutztown to extend the winning streak for the Vulcans to eight games.
In his second year as a starter, Buchanan ranks second on the team in scoring at 16.1 points per game while playing a team-high 34.9 minutes per game. He sits third in the PSAC with 38 three-pointers made and ranks among the top 10 in the league with a .384 clip (38-of-99) from long range. Buchanan has already scored at least 20 points four times this year behind a pair of games with six three-pointers.
Buchanan earned the weekly league accolade for the second time in his career after previously receiving received the honor in the final week of the regular season last year.
The Vulcans open PSAC West play this week with a pair of home game against Seton Hill and Gannon with all three teams tied for first place in the divisional standings with undefeated marks following league crossover action.
