Lucas receives weekly league laurels

CALIFORNIA (Jan. 12) – After helping the program extend its winning streak to 10 games, California (PA) redshirt junior forward Bryson Lucas was chosen the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Lucas averaged a double-double with 23.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week, as the Vulcans claimed sole possession of first place in the divisional standings. He posted 22 points and nine rebounds on Wednesday in an 87-78 victory over Seton Hill after both teams entered play in a three-way tie for first place. Lucas then recorded a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds in a 99-88 win against No. 9 Gannon on Saturday, breaking a tie for first place in the league standings. The victory marked the first win for the Vulcans over a top-10 team since the 2013-14 season.

A native of West Virginia, Lucas ranks among the top 15 in the league in scoring with a career-high 16.1 points per game. He sits third in the PSAC with 8.9 rebounds per game, plus ranks among the top 10 with 1.87 steals and 1.07 blocks per game. Lucas is averaging a career-high 33.7 minutes per game after being limited to just three games last season due to injury.

Lucas received PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his career. As a redshirt sophomore, he was twice named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week before being voted the 2024 PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year.

The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 14, with their first road game in three weeks, as they face Clarion in PSAC West play with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
