SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 28) – The California (PA) tennis team was eliminated from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a 4-0 loss at Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals on Monday afternoon.
With the loss, the Vulcans finish the year with a 14-7 overall record while making its first post-season appearance since 2016. Cal also registered its first winning season in nine years while reaching double-digit victories. Meanwhile, The Rock extends its winning streak to six matches to improve to 12-8 this season and will face host Bloomsburg in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament on Friday, May 2.
Slippery Rock secured the doubles point after winning the two completed matches in the session. At the third position, sophomore
Lilli Schreiber and freshman
Anika Hedrich were blanked by a 6-0 margin against Georgie Lancaster and Dari Sakhanova. Junior
Diletta Maria Mungo and freshman
Garance Laforet then dropped a 6-1 contest at second doubles to Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak. At the first slot, juniors
Teddi Isherwood and
Leandra Guldimann were up by a 4-2 margin against the nationally-ranked tandem of Alissia Kivi and Nicole Kempton.
The Rock advanced to semifinals by winning the three completed matches in singles action on Monday. Isherwood fell to nationally-ranked Brau at the first slot by a 6-2, 6-0 count. Schreiber then fell by a 6-0, 6-1 margin to Sakhanova at fifth singles before Hedrich lost a 6-0, 6-1 match at the sixth position to Lancaster.
The Vulcans and The Rock were meeting in the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2010.
