ELKINS, W.Va. (April 23) – The No. 30 Vulcans belted three homers while reaching the 30-win mark on Wednesday afternoon with a 10-1 victory at Davis & Elkins in non-conference play.
NOTES
• The California (PA) baseball team (30-7) reached the milestone for the third time in the last six full seasons (2019, 2022).
• The Vulcans have won at least 30 games 11 times under head coach
Mike Conte, including seven times from 2004-2011.
• Senior left fielder
Ryan Callahan posted three hits and three RBI, while sophomore center fielder
Ikon Jones tallied three hits, two RBI, two runs scored and one walk.
• Senior designated hitter
Payton Conte finished with three hits, one RBI and one run scored and senior right fielder
James Salvatori collected two hits, two RBI, three runs scored and one walk.
• Cal scored on a sacrifice fly in the first before Conte collected a two-out RBI single in the second.
• The Vulcans held a 4-1 lead before scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
• Salvatori belted a solo homer to start the inning and sophomore second baseman
Caleb Collins later delivered a two-run double with two outs, 7-1.
• Cal stretched the lead to 10-1 with a trio of runs in the seventh on Wednesday.
• Salvatori tallied an infield RBI single before scoring on a two-run homer by Callahan, his seventh of the year, with two outs.
• The Vulcans forced the run-rule victory following a two-run homer by Jones, his second in the spring, in the top of the eighth inning.
• Cal used three different pitchers against D&E with freshman starter
Coleman Fletcher (1-0) being credited with the win after allowing one run (earned) over 4.0 innings.
• Junior
Noah Zadroga worked 2.0 scoreless innings of relief and classmate
Hayden Zaffino yielded one run (unearned) over the final 2.0 innings.
