DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 2) – Facing one of the top perennial teams in the Midwest Region, the Vulcans opened their spring trip to Florida with a 6-2 win against Northwood (MI) in non-conference action on Sunday evening.
NOTES
• California (4-0) has started the season with four-straight victories for the first time since 2009.
• The Timberwolves have appeared in the NCAA Tournament in seven-consecutive seasons.
• Northwood captured the G-MAC Championship in 2023 in its initial year as members of the league.
• Junior starting pitcher
Michael Valente (2-0) earned the victory after allowing one run (earned) on six hits while setting a career high with eight strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
• Sophomore
Josh Bryson registered the save after yielding one run (earned) on three hits in 3.0 innings with four strikeouts.
• With the score tied at 1-1, the Vulcans scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the third.
• Senior second baseman
Santino Marra belted a three-run homer before junior third baseman
Conor Carney later collected an RBI single.
• The Timberwolves scored one run with two outs in the seventh before the Vulcans countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
• Senior first baseman
Payton Conte tallied three hits and one run scored, while Marra finished 2-for4 with a three-run homer and four RBI.
• Freshman shortstop
Peyton Ford collected two hits in his first career start.
