California scores game-winner in final seconds

Vulcans extend winning streak to five games; Polak scores 20 points for 12th time in last 14 games

CLARION, Pa. (Feb. 12) – Freshman Jordyn Buchanan converted the game-winning three-pointer with five seconds left, as the California (PA) men's basketball team claimed a 73-71 win at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Wednesday night.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (15-10, 10-7) extended their winning streak to five games and has won eight of their last 10 games.
• Cal now holds a half-game lead for second place in the divisional standings with three games left in the regular season.
• Redshirt junior Cam Polak led the team with 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting for his 12th 20-point performance in the last 14 games.
• He also posted seven rebounds and three assists in the victory.
• Senior Kadyn Hannah finished with 14 points, seven rebounds (three offensive) and four assists on Wednesday.
• Junior Donald Whitehead, Jr. collected 12 points, three rebounds and five assists against the Golden Eagles.
• Sophomore Dalman Alexander registered a team-leading eight rebounds (five offensive) in the win.
• The Golden Eagles held a 66-62 lead with 4:37 left to play before taking the lead two minutes later on a jumper by Polak, 68-66.
• Clarion reclaimed the lead on a three-pointer at the 1:43-mark, 71-70, before being held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
• Buchanan scored the game-winning basket with five seconds left after Polak collected a steal on the previous possession by the Golden Eagles.
• The Golden Eagles started the game on an 11-2 run before the Vulcans cut the deficit to 16-15 at the 11:25-mark.
• Clarion later scored nine of the final 10 points of the first half to take a 45-33 lead at the break.
• The Golden Eagles extended the lead to as many as 16 points, 49-33, in the initial minute of the second half.
• Cal scored 10-unasnwered points midway through the half to trim the deficit to 55-54 lead with 8:45 left to play.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor and converted 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
• Cal held a 40-28 rebounding advantage behind 13 offensive rebounds.
• Clarion junior Cam Kearney, the league's leading scorer, totaled a game-high 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including four-of-six from beyond the arc.
