Ray collects weekly league defensive honor

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Dec. 22) – After helping the team earn three victories in league crossover play, California (PA) junior forward Joshua Ray was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Ray averaged 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game, as the Vulcans closed the calendar year on a six-game winning streak with three PSAC Crossover victories last week. He also averaged 9.7 points per game while recording a pair of double-doubles and playing 33.7 minutes per game. Ray posted eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals, plus six points, in a 95-76 win over Shippensburg on Tuesday. The Atlanta native followed with 10 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks on Saturday in a 63-61 victory at Lock Haven. He closed the week with 13 points, 13 rebounds and one block in a 93-70 win at Mansfield on Sunday.

A 6-foot-6 junior, Ray is averaging 5.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season while playing in all 11 games. He has moved into the starting lineup over the last five games following an injury and has posted 9.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals per game during that span.

The Vulcans are idle for more than 10 days due to the holidays and return to action on Jan. 2 by hosting East Stroudsburg at the Convocation Center with tip-off at 5 p.m.
