EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The No. 16 Vulcans claimed the lead twice in the fourth quarter before falling by a 35-29 count at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon.
NOTES
• California (4-2, 1-2) has dropped back-to-back games in divisional action for the first time since 2017.
• The Vulcans previously won 19-consecutive meetings in the series with the Fighting Scots, dating back to 2004.
• Cal set a season high with 305 passing yards while three different players completed a pass on Saturday.

Phaeton Hill finished with 171 passing yards on 11-of-15 attempts, plus added a rushing touchdown.

Roman Purcell totaled 127 passing yards and one touchdown while completing 14-of-21 attempts.

Deontae Williams registered 312 all-purpose yards against the Fighting Scots.
• He posted a career-high 139 receiving yards on four catches and totaled 173 yards on six kickoff returns, plus completed a seven-yard pass.

Kenny Lewis IV both made six receptions with Lewis tallying his first career touchdown catch.

Alexie Sangster, Jr. led the team with eight tackles (five solo) and posted his fourth interception of the year.

RECAP
• The Fighting Scots scored touchdowns on their opening two drives of the game and held a 12-0 lead at the 3:36-mark of the first quarter (two unsuccessful PAT attempts – pass, kick).
• Cal trimmed the deficit on the initial play of the second with a 27-yard field goal by sophomore
Harry Radcliffe.
• The Fighting Scots countered with a field goal on the next drive before Purcell found Lewis for a five-yard touchdown on third down with 3:52 left before halftime.
• Sangster returned an interception into Edinboro territory with just over one minute remaining in the second quarter.
• Cal cut the deficit to 15-13 at halftime following a 28-yard field goal by Radcliffe as time expired.
• The Vulcans claimed their initial lead of the game on the opening drive of the third quarter when sophomore

• Edinboro responded with a 15-play touchdown drive that lasted nearly nine minutes to take a 21-20 lead (conversion failed).
• The teams traded touchdowns early in the fourth quarter with Hill scoring on a four-yard touchdown run at 12:46-mark before Edinboro scored just over two minutes later on a 47-yard touchdown run.
• The Vulcans advanced to the 1-yard line on the next drive before Radcliffe converted an 18-yard field goal with 3:21 left to play, 29-27.
• Edinboro then needed just six plays to advance 75 yards and claim a 33-29 lead with 1:38 remaining following a 17-yard touchdown pass on third down.
• The Fighting Scots sealed the victory with an interception near midfield with 48 seconds left to play.
• Edinboro amassed 220 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 36 attempts in the win.
