SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 14) – Sophomore
Jake Kramer tied a 40-plus year old school record in Game 1 on Sunday afternoon, as the California (PA) baseball team split a twinbill at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play with a 9-7 victory in Game 1 and a 15-9 loss in Game 2.
RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans stand at 23-10 this season with a 10-6 mark in conference action.
• The Rock moves to 19-11 overall and are tied with Cal and IUP at 10-6 in the PSAC West standings.
• Slippery Rock has won six of the last 10 meetings against Cal at Jack Critchfield Park dating back to 2019.
GAME 1
STATS
• Kramer tied the single-season school record of nine saves that was previously reached by Dave Yasenchak in 1983.
• He also holds a 2-0 record and a 0.86 ERA in 21.0 innings pitched over 14 appearances this spring.
• Kramer is now just one save shy of tying Yasenchak (1980-83) for the all-time school record of 16 saves.
• The PSAC single-season save record of 17 was set in 2014, while the all-time league mark of 24 has stood since 2000.

Santino Marra registered the first multi-homer game of his career (113 starts), finishing with three hits and three runs scored.
• Freshman catcher
Conner McTighe collected a pair of hits and one run scored.

Caleb Collins scored twice after drawing two walks.

Nathan Holmes (4-1) earned the win after surrendering six runs (all earned) in 4.0 innings (78 pitches).
ACTION
• The Vulcans took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single by junior left fielder
Ryan Callahan.
• Slippery Rock tied the score in the second inning on a two-run homer by catcher Robby Barrientos.
• Cal responded by scoring four runs, including two unearned, in the top of the third.
• Collins scored on a ground-out and Marra then scored on a fielding error.
• Junior first baseman
Nathan Meeks later collected an RBI single before McTighe scored on a sacrifice fly.
• Marra stretched the lead to 7-2 with a solo homer in the fourth before The Rock cut the deficit to 7-6 on a grand slam by center fielder Cam Panyko Morris.
• The Vulcans scored on a throwing error in the fifth before Marra belted another solo homer to start the seventh.
• Rock third baseman Brandon Butler countered with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, only the second run allowed by Kramer this spring.
• Slippery Rock starting pitcher Joey Purcell (3-3) was dealt the loss after yielding nine runs (six earned) on nine hits in 6.0-plus innings (97 pitches).

Hunter Fiori tallied two hits and two RBI.
• Collins and sophomore third baseman
Conor Carney both tallied a pair of hits and scored one run.
• Sophomore
Sam Georgiana (3-2) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits in 2.2 innings.
ACTION
• Cal and Slippery Rock both scored two runs in the first inning.
• The Vulcans scored on a two-out, bases-loaded single by Fiori before The Rock tied the score on a two-run homer by right fielder Michael Kitko.
• Cal against scored twice in the top of the second with Collins delivering a sacrifice fly and Marra following with a two-out RBI triple.
• Slippery Rock countered with six runs in the third inning, highlighted by homers from left fielder Gage Gillott and Barrientos.
• The Rock stretched the lead to 15-4 in the bottom of the fifth after tallying seven runs on six hits, one walk, two hit by pitches and one error before leaving the bases loaded.
• Cal cut the deficit by scoring five runs in the seventh inning on Sunday.
• Callahan, sophomore designated hitter
Colin Patterson and Fiori delivered back-to-back-to-back RBI singles with the bases loaded before Callahan scored on a ground-out.

Ikon Jones later collected a two-out single to drive in the final run of the game.
• Rock junior Robert Herr earned the win after yielding five runs (all earned) in 4.0 innings of relief.
