California collects win at Seton Hill, 100-93

McClurg reaches 500-point mark this season; Vulcans commit just three turnovers in victory

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 7) – The No. 16 Vulcans boasted six players, including all five starters, scoring in double-digits in a 100-93 win at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday night.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's basketball team improves to 19-3 overall with a 13-3 mark in conference action.
• The Griffins fall to 12-10 this season with a 7-9 record in league play.
• The Vulcans have won the last 10 meetings in the series after Seton Hill won eight of the previous 10 contests.
• Cal now holds 1.5-game lead for second place in the PSAC West standings after IUP lost in double-overtime on the road.

STATS
• Sophomore KJ McClurg finished with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including three-of-eight from beyond the arc.
• He also becomes the fifth player under head coach Danny Sancomb, and No. 25 player in program history, to score 500 points in a single-season.
• Redshirt senior Zyan Collins posted 20 points (18 second half) behind a career-high five three-pointers (five-of-eight).
• He also tallied five rebounds and five assists while playing all 40 minutes on Wednesday.
• Junior Keith Palek III registered 18 points on five-of-six from the floor, four rebounds and six assists in 24 minutes off the bench.
• Redshirt sophomore Bryson Lucas totaled 17 points on seven-of-eight from the field, nine rebounds and five assists in the victory.
• Sophomore Donald Whitehead, Jr. collected 12 points, three rebounds and four assists.
• Senior Jermaine Hall, Jr. finished with 12 points and five rebounds at Seton Hill.

GAME ACTION
• The Griffins opened the game by scoring seven of the initial eight points, as the Vulcans were held without a field goal until the 15:40-mark.
• Cal tied the score at 12-12 before Seton Hill then scored eight-consecutive points to build a 21-13 lead with 11:19 left in the first half.
• The Griffins later held a 36-29 lead with 2:29 remaining before the Vulcans closed the first half on an 11-4 run to tie the score at 40-40.
• The score remained no more than a two-possession game throughout the majority of the second half.
• Seton Hill held a 64-60 advantage before Cal mounted an 11-2 run behind a trio of treys in just under two minutes to take a 71-66 lead at the 8:47-mark.
• The Griffins claimed their last lead of the game with 6:41 left to play.
• Cal later posted a 15-3 rally to seize a double-digit lead, 94-82, with 59 seconds remaining.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the floor, including 13-of-26 (50.0 percent) from long range.
• Cal tied its season highs with 100 points and 13 three-pointers in the victory.
• The Vulcans collected 22 assists on 34 field goals and committed just three turnovers on Wednesday.
• Seton Hill freshman Dimitri Sklavenitis led five players in double-digits with 16 points on five-of-nine shooting.

• Cal returns to the Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 10, when it hosts Slippery Rock in PSAC West action at 3 p.m.
