Women's Basketball posts win over Rock, 72-53

Vulcans held a plus-18 rebounding advantage; Terrell registered eighth 20-point game this season

CALIFORNIA (Feb. 10) – The Vulcans used a solid defensive effort and a balanced offense to capture a 72-53 victory over Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) women's basketball team improves to 16-7 overall with an 11-6 mark in league play.
• The Rock lost its fifth-consecutive game to fall to 2-17 this season behind a 2-14 record in conference action.
• The Vulcans have won 43 of the last 44 meetings against The Rock dating back over two decades.
• Cal is tied for fourth place in the divisional standings with five games left in the regular season.

STATS
• Redshirt senior Dejah Terrell scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 from the floor and six-of-six from the free-throw line for her eighth 20-point game of the year.
• She also collected nine rebounds (three offensive), one block and one steal on Saturday.
• Freshman Kimaya Williams set a season high with 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench.
• Fellow freshman Nina Shaw finished with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals against The Rock.
• Junior Allycia Harris tallied four points and six rebounds (three assists), while classmate Sierra Bermudez registered seven points, four rebounds and three steals.
• A total of 11 different players scored for Cal in the victory on Saturday.

GAME ACTION
• The Rock scored eight-straight points midway through the first quarter to take a 13-6 lead at the 3:49-mark.
• Cal scored six of the last eight points in the first quarter to cut the deficit to a 17-14 margin.
• The Vulcans then rallied off 15-unanswered points to start the second quarter to seize a 29-17 lead with 6:00 left before halftime.
• Slippery Rock snapped a nearly five-minute scoreless drought with a three-point play at the 5:51-mark.
• The Rock later mounted an 11-0 run to tie the score at 31-31 with 58 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
• Cal scored a pair of baskets in the final minute to take a 35-31 lead at the break.
• The Vulcans posted nine-unanswered points midway through the third quarter to take a 48-36 lead at the 3:14-mark.
• Cal stretched its lead to as many as 25 points, 69-44, with 2:57 remaining in the fourth quarter behind a 17-2 run.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from the floor and converted 12-of-19 from the free-throw line (63.2 percent).
• Cal held a sizeable 46-28 rebounding advantage behind 20 offensive rebounds and scored 23 second-chance points.
• The Vulcans forced at least 20 turnovers for the third time in four games and finished with 30 points off turnovers.
• Rock junior Kristina Donza led the team with 15 points behind three-of-five from long range.
