California climbs to No. 18 in latest poll

WACO, Texas (Nov. 4) – Following a rare midyear bye week, the California (PA) football team climbed five places to No. 18 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 poll released on Monday afternoon.

The Vulcans maintain a 7-1 overall record with two games left in the regular season, both at Adamson Stadium. Cal is currently on a seven-game winning streak, its longest since opening the 2021 campaign with eight-consecutive victories.  The bye week in Week 9 was the result of Mercyhurst transitioning to the NCAA FCS level this fall.

Cal remains one of three schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) slotted in the national poll. Kutztown (9-0) reached the highest position in program history at No. 3 following a 49-17 road victory to secure its third appearance in the PSAC Championship in the last four years.  Slippery Rock (7-1) jumped four places to No. 10 after earning a 38-22 road victory on Halloween.

Additionally, Super Region One continues to feature a pair of teams in the top 25 this week. Charleston (W.Va.) (9-0) vaulted three slots to No. 6 while claiming at least a share of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship with a 38-0 shutout win on the road. Findlay (8-1) climbed one position into a tie for No. 24 behind a 28-17 victory at home over the weekend.

The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Nov. 9, when they host Edinboro for Senior Day at Adamson Stadium with kickoff at 12 p.m.
