California rallies for win over Point Park

Young posts second 20-point game this season; Teams were whistled for a combined 50 fouls

CALIFORNIA (Nov. 16) – Led by a surge in the fourth quarter, the California (PA) women's basketball team rallied for a 65-61 victory against Point Park in non-conference play on Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (3-1) played their third Mountain East Conference (MEC) member already this season.
• Point Park is in its first year as a provisional member of NCAA Division II.
• Junior Alicia Young tied her career high with 22 points (16 second half) while leading the team in scoring for the fourth-straight game.
• She also tallied nine rebounds (three offensive), one block and four steals while playing 29 minutes.
• Sophomore Alivia Huffman tallied nine points, nine rebounds (seven offensive) and two blocks in 18 minutes off the bench.
• Classmate Kimaya Williams established a career high with 15 rebounds (four offensive) while playing 35 minutes off the bench in her season debut.
• The Pioneers held the lead for nearly 30 minutes in the contest, leading by as many as eight points with 8:15 left to play.
• Cal then mounted a 15-6 run to claim a 60-59 lead at the 3:44-mark of the fourth quarter behind 12 points by Young.
• Point Park scored its final points of the game with 3:07 remaining.
• The Vulcans scored the last five points of the contest with Huffman sealing the win on a pair of free-throws in the final seconds.
• Cal held a 52-43 rebounding advantage behind 21 offensive rebounds.
• The teams were whistled for a combined 50 fouls and attempted a total of 65 free-throws.

NEXT
• Cal returns to action on Monday, Nov. 18, when it travels to Fairmont, West Virginia, to face defending-MEC Champion Fairmont State at 6 p.m.
• The Vulcans and Fighting Falcons both appeared in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
