California among Super Region One rankings

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 28) – The California (PA) football program was listed among the 10 teams from Super Region One in consideration for NCAA post-season play on Monday evening.

The Super Region One rankings will determine the participants for the NCAA Playoffs. Super Region One consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mountain East Conference (MEC), Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with seven of the 43 teams from the four leagues making the field for the NCAA Playoffs.

This marks the third-consecutive season in which the first set of regional rankings are listed in alphabetical order with no numerical ranking. The NCAA Division II Football Committee will rank the teams in numerical order for the first time with the second set of regional rankings, which will be announced next week.

The PSAC occupies four of the teams in the initial rankings, as the Vulcans were joined by East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and Slippery Rock. Cal features an impressive strength of schedule this season, as it boasts the third-best opponent winning percentage (OWP)-opponents' opponent winning (OOWP) at .573 among teams under consideration. The Vulcans have already played two teams under consideration and will likely face another in Week 11 while hosting the PSAC Championship.

Additionally, Cal features the third-best 'performance indicator' in Super Region One behind only Charleston (W.Va.) and Kutztown – the two remaining undefeated teams in the region.

UC plays back-to-back road games before closing the season at home. Kutztown needs to win once over the next two weeks to secure its fourth appearance in the PSAC Championship in five years. Additionally, G-MAC members Findlay and Tiffin will face each other in Week 11 after both schools debuted as teams under consideration in the initial rankings.

The Vulcans are idle this week before hosting Edinboro for Senior Day at Adamson Stadium on Nov. 9 with kickoff at 12 p.m.
