California cruises to win at Clarion, 93-80

Five players score in double-digits; Vulcans finish with plus-20 rebounding advantage

CLARION, Pa. (Jan. 17) – The No. 18 Vulcans raced out to a 24-point lead in the first half before claiming a 93-80 win at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday night

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's basketball team improves to 14-2 overall with an 8-2 mark in conference action.
• The Golden Eagles fall to 6-10 this season behind a 4-6 record in league play after winning just a single conference game last year (1-21).
• The Vulcans have won six of the last seven meetings in the series with the teams splitting the series last season.

STATS
• Senior Jermaine Hall, Jr. tallied his third double-double of the season in the victory.
• He scored a season-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added 10 rebounds (four offensive) and six assists on Wednesday.
• Hall also moved into No. 25 place all-time in school history with 1,127 points.
• Redshirt senior Zyan Collins and sophomore KJ McClurg both finished with 21 points at Clarion.
• Collins collected eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes.
• McClurg shot 7-of-15 from the floor and registered nine rebounds and three steals in the win.
• Redshirt sophomore Bryson Lucas totaled 13 points, seven rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks on Wednesday.
• Redshirt freshman Antoine Arnett added 11 points while playing 21 minutes off the bench.

GAME ACTION
• The Vulcans mounted a 17-4 run early in the first half to seize a 24-9 lead at the 12:46-mark.
• Cal quickly stretched the lead with an 18-5 rally midway through the half to take its largest lead of the game at 44-20 with 6:38 left before the break.
• The Golden Eagles closed the half on a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to 54-38 at halftime.
• The Vulcans shot at a 58.3 clip (21-of-36) from the field in the first half, including 6-of-12 (50.0 percent) from long range.
• Clarion scored the initial four points of the second half to work the deficit to 54-42 at the 18:54-mark.
• The Vulcans countered with a 10-2 rally to increase the lead to 64-44 with 14:02 remaining.
• Cal later led by as many as 22 points, 76-54, in the second half with 10:03 left to play.
• The Golden Eagles out-scored the Vulcans by a 17-8 margin over five minutes to cut the deficit to 87-77 at the 3:31-mark.
• Cal finished the game shooting 55.1 percent (38-of-69) from the floor.
• The Vulcans held a sizeable 43-23 rebounding advantage behind 15 offensive rebounds and scored 54 points in the paint.
• Clarion redshirt freshman Gavin Cote led the team with 20 points behind five-of-six from long range.
• Sophomore Justice Easter added 15 points and eight assists in the losing effort.

NEXT
• Cal is idle this weekend before continuing PSAC West play on Wednesday, Jan. 24, by hosting Pitt-Johnstown at the Convocation Center with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
