Men's Soccer rolls past Malone, 4-2

California scores most goals at home since 2019; Three players record first career goal in win

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 6) – Led by four different goal scorers, the Vulcans captured a 4-2 victory over Malone (Ohio) in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's soccer team earned its first victory of the year to move to 1-1-1 this fall.
• The Vulcans are unbeaten in both home games this season while scoring five goals over two contests.
• The Pioneers fall to 1-2 this season after allowing a combined seven goals in their last two games.
• Cal and Malone last met during the 2018 campaign with the Vulcans earning an overtime victory at home.

GAME ACTION
• Cal seized a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal by junior Paul Morelli following a feed by senior Cullin Woytovich.
• The Pioneers tied the contest at the 18:59-mark before the Vulcans scored twice over the last 15 minutes prior the break.
• Cal reclaimed the lead in the 31st minute when Brady Olsen tallied a goal off an assist from Joshua Rifkin.
• The Vulcans added a goal in the closing seconds of the first period when freshman Christopher McMeel notched a goal with an assist to junior Corey McKoy.
• Malone scored in the 59th minute with a shot past the diving goalkeeper.
• Rifkin placed a shot in the upper left of the net at the 86:16-mark to increase the lead to 4-2 following a double assist from McKoy and freshman Andriy Bilous.
• Senior Payton Smith collected two saves while earning his fifth career victory.

NOTES
• Cal recorded its most goals in a game since Sept. 25, 2021 when it posted a 5-0 victory at Pitt-Johnstown.
• The Vulcans also tallied their most goals at home since a 5-1 win against Daemen (N.Y.) in 2019.
• The trio of McMeel, Morelli and Rifkin all scored their first career goals in the win on Wednesday.
• McKoy was credited with multiple assists in the victory after previously posting his first career points on Sunday following the game-tying goal.

• The Vulcans continue non-conference action on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they travel to face Cedarville (Ohio) at 5 p.m.
