California outlasted by Gannon, 3-2

Vulcans force defending-PSAC Champion to five sets; Floyd registers most blocks in match since 2015

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 30) – The Vulcans won the opening two sets on Saturday evening before dropping a 3-2 contest (26-28, 26-28, 25-21, 25-14, 15-10) to defending-league and regional champion Gannon at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) volleyball team falls to 6-5 this year behind a 1-3 record in league play.
• The Lady Knights improve to 11-3 overall with a 3-1 mark in divisional action.
• Gannon extended its winning streak in the series to 11 matches while the teams played a five-set match for the first time since the 2015 campaign.

NOTES
• Junior Allie Droneberger led the team with 14 kills on 50 attacks, her third career match with at least 50 attempts.
• Freshman Sarah Stephenson set a season high with 12 kills, while senior Alayja Floyd added eight kills on a .364 hitting percentage.
• Junior Rachel Simon totaled 41 assists on Saturday, as she reached 40 assists for the fifth time this year.
• Senior Emily Buwawa established a season high with 23 digs and was one of four players with double-digit digs.
• Droneberger and Simon each collected double-doubles against the Lady Knights, finishing with 14 and 12 digs, respectively.
• Sophomore Elisa Rugiero registered 11 digs and added seven kills and five blocks in the losing effort.
• Floyd set a career high with 11 blocks, as she became the first player with double-digit blocks in a match since 2015.
