LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 12) – Following his standout play in a dramatic comeback win, California (PA) sophomore linebacker Ibrahim Sanogo was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Sanogo played a critical role in the fourth quarter during the 31-20 victory against Kutztown on Saturday. He was credited with six tackles (four solo), 4.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble while making his first career start. With six minutes left in the game and Cal trailing by three points, Sanogo made a TFL and sack on back-to-back plays that eventually forced a three-and-out by the Golden Bears. After the Vulcans took their initial lead of the game in the final minute, the Academy Park product registered a strip sack on first play of the KU drive that Cal recovered inside the red zone. Sanogo helped anchor a defense that held the Golden Bears to only 87 yards of total offense and five first downs in the second half.

A 6-foot-2, 235-pound sophomore, Sanogo became the first player since Week 9 in the 2018 campaign to record at least 4.0 TFL in a game. He is one of three players in NCAA Division II through the opening two weeks of the season to record 4.5 TFL in a game. As a true freshman, Sanogo led the Vulcans with 6.0 sacks while playing as a reserve and finished with 19 tackles (10 solo) and 8.0 TFL.

The Vulcans return to action when they host No. 14 and two-time, defending-regional champion Shepherd on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Adamson Stadium with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
