Cal U falls to Seton Hill on Senior Day, 6-1

Vulcans honored a trio of seniors; Cal U finishes year with most wins since the 2015-16 campaign

CALIFORNIA (April 24) – The Vulcans ended the regular season by dropping a 6-1 contest to Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Sunday afternoon at Roadman Park while hosting Senior Day.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team closes the season with an 8-9 record behind a 1-5 mark in divisional play. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 6-9 overall with a 2-4 record in conference action.

Seton Hill secured the doubles point after sweeping all three matches in the session. At first doubles, sophomore Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) suffered a 6-4 loss against Cameron Beer and Kendall McCluskey. Senior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) dropped a 6-2 contest at the second position to Kaitlyn Walch and Kasey Storkel. At the third slot, sophomore Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and freshman Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) fell by a 6-3 margin to Sophia Solomon and Julianna Begley.

The Griffins won five of the six singles matches on Sunday to claim the match victory. Duran fell by a 6-2, 6-3 margin to Beer at the first slot, while Del Mar Ojeda wad downed by Storkel by a 6-3, 6-3 count at the second position. Winseck dropped a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 match at third singles to McCluskey and Feltenberger won by retirement over Begley at the fourth position. Anastos fell by a 6-4, 6-1 count to Walch at fifth singles, while Iacob suffered a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) loss to Solomon at the sixth slot.

The eight overall wins by Cal U this year marked the most since the 2015-16 campaign when the Vulcans advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament under 2022 Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame selection Pablo Montana.
