CALIFORNIA (Feb. 12) – Behind four starters scoring in double-digits, the Vulcans dominated Edinboro by posting a 78-42 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 16-4 this season with an 11-4 record in league play. Cal U also snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Fighting Scots dating back to the 2017-18 campaign. Meanwhile, Edinboro falls to 11-8 overall behind a 9-7 mark in conference action.
Junior
Dejah Terrell (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) paced the Vulcans with her ninth double-double of the season, tallying 18 points and 13 rebounds (four offensive). She finished 8-of-16 from the floor and tied her season high with five blocks before fouling out in 32 minutes. Terrell became the first player since Shatara Parsons in the 2017-18 campaign to eclipse 50 blocks in a season.

Shauna Harrison (Sheffield, England/Myerscough) finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, including four-of-nine from three-point range. Fellow junior
Ciaira Loyd (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) recorded 14 points, six assists and three steals, while junior
Brionna Allen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Binghamton) registered 14 points on five-of-eight shooting and tied her season high with eight rebounds in the win.
Cal U began the contest on a 6-3 run before Edinboro scored four of six points to trail 8-7 with 5:49 remaining in the first quarter. After a jumper by Harrison, the two teams went scoreless over the next two minutes before the Vulcans ended the quarter on a 5-4 run to lead 15-11. After trading baskets to start the second quarter, Cal U mounted an 8-3 run led by Allen to extend its lead to 25-16 with 5:42 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets before Cal U scored seven of the next 10 points to hold a 34-21 advantage at the half.
The Vulcans opened the second half by scoring eight-straight points led by consecutive three-pointers by Harrison to extend the lead to 42-21. After a basket by the Fighting Scots, Cal U rattled off an 8-2 run to lead 50-25 with 4:12 remaining in the third quarter. The teams traded the next four points before Harrison and Terrell led a 7-4 run for the Vulcans to extend the lead to 59-32. After trading the final four points of the quarter, Cal U held a 61-34 advantage heading to the fourth quarter. Loyd started the fourth quarter with a jumper before the Vulcans extended their lead with a 7-4 run. Cal U scored four-of-five points to lead 74-39 before scoring six of the next nine points to end the game.
The Vulcans finished the game shooting 44.6 percent (29-of-65) and converted 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots shot at a 28.6 clip (16-of-56) and converted 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the charity stripe. Cal U held a 46-34 rebound advantage, while forcing 20 turnovers in the win.
Sophomore Rana Elhusseini led the Fighting Scots with 16 points and collected five rebounds. Freshman Ashten Boggs finished with six points, while sophomore Bella Burrelli collected five points and six rebounds on Saturday.
Cal U returns to action on Monday, Feb. 14, as it travels to Pitt-Johnstown for a PSAC West contest at 5:30 p.m.
