CSC Academic All-America Teams (PDF)
CALIFORNIA (Dec. 20) – California (PA) graduate student
Noel Brouse (Slatington, Pa./Parkland) became the first player in program history to repeat as a First-Team Academic All-American, as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon.
The CSC Academic All-America program replaces the former CoSIDA Academic All-America program after CoSIDA recently rebranded the organization as College Sports Communicators. The program increased the minimum cumulative grade-point average for nominees to 3.50 (previously 3.30) and instituted a limit on the maximum number of submissions by a school in each sport.
Brouse is the fifth football player, and third offensive lineman, in school history to repeat as an Academic All-American. The Vulcans have featured at least one Academic All-American in six of the last seven years and nine times in the past 12 seasons.
This fall, Brouse earned Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Second-Team All-Region honors and All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West First-Team laurels. He started all 11 games at left tackle and helped the Vulcans rank among the top five in the league in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense. Cal also finished among the top 10 in the country in red-zone offense and doubled its rushing total from last year behind a trio that combined for over 1,400 yards on the ground.
Brouse recently completed a post-graduate certificate from PennWest in group fitness and leadership. He earned his master's degree from Cal U in sport management with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration in December 2021 while maintaining a 4.00 GPA. Brouse completed his bachelor's degree in sport management from UConn in May 2020 and graduated with a 3.81 GPA.
While with the Vulcans, Brouse started all 21 games at left tackle over the last two seasons when the program boasted its all-time leading passer that was named the 2021 PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Year. He played for two different head coaches at UConn but did not appear in any game from the 2016-19 campaigns.
Brouse was one of only 13 players from NCAA Division II named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy® in September. The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation. Overall, a total of 156 collegiate players across all NCAA and NAIA levels were chosen as a semifinalist for the award this fall.
Cal was one of only two PSAC schools to feature a 2022 First-Team Academic All-American. A total of 11 players on the two CSC Academic All-America teams (50 players) received the honor for at least the second time in their careers.
