NOTES
• Cal closes the season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts ESU for Senior Day. Last week, the Vulcans suffered a 25-13 loss against Gannon in PSAC West play. Meanwhile, the Warriors held a 14-0 lead before dropping a 37-14 contest to No. 3 Shepherd.

• The Vulcans were near the red zone and trailed by five points in the closing minutes before suffering a 25-13 loss against Gannon. Cal limited the Golden Knights to only 40 rushing yards after they entered play averaging nearly 165 yards per game. Junior Noah Dillow led the team with 11 tackles and added 2.5 TFL and one forced fumble, while senior Gerald Brown finished with six stops, 1.5 TFL and one forced fumble. Senior Cam Tarrant led the team with 76 receiving yards on a season-high 10 catches. Quarterback Noah Mitchell posted 215 yards on 27-of-41 attempts.

• The Vulcans and Warriors are meeting for only the second time since 2011. The teams previously played four times in a span of six years from 2006-11.

• One of the most prolific quarterbacks in NCAA history, Jimmy Terwilliger has posted a 16-18 record in four years as head coach with the Warriors. He was a three-time finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy and won the prestigious award in 2005 while leading ESU to a NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. Terwilliger joined the program as an assistant coach in 2015 following time at the scholastic level.

• ESU finished in fifth place in the PSAC East standings for a consecutive year. The Warriors boast one of the most efficient red-zone offenses in the country, scoring 28 times in 30 trips (93.3 percent), and are tied for second in the league with a plus-seven turnover margin. ESU features one of the top defensive lineman in the nation in senior Deshawn McCarthy, who recorded 13.0 sacks and 17.5 TFL last year while being an AFCA All-American. Senior linebacker Sergei Felizor leads the team and ranks sixth in the PSAC with 93 tackles, plus has 6.5 TFL and one interception. Graduate student linebacker Jahan Worth, a Duquesne transfer, has made 70 stops and 6.5 TFL in his first year with the program. On special teams, junior Devin Bartholomew is one of the top kickers in the country this fall. He sits second in NCAA Division II with 1.70 field-goals made per game while making 77.3 percent (17-of-22) of his attempts, including 6-of-10 from 40-plus yards. ESU has used multiple quarterbacks this year with senior Jake Cirillo leading the team with 1,215 passing yards and eight touchdowns. He posted 315 passing yards and five touchdown passes in a near upset of IUP in Week 2 this season. Senior Ezequiel Lopez paces the team with 369 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 30 catches, while sophomore John Siggins has posted 23 receptions for 316 yards and three scores. On the ground, freshman Tahir Mills leads the team with 328 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 67 carries.

• The latest Super Region One rankings were released on Monday with half of the teams remaining in the same position as last week. Shepherd - the lone undefeated team in the region - maintained the top spot, while Assumption and Ashland flipped positions with Assumption now sitting at second and Ashland dropping to fourth. A trio of teams in the PSAC West remain in contention for a berth in the 2022 NCAA Playoffs.

• The PSAC will host its annual championship on Saturday with IUP hosting Shepherd, which is playing in the PSAC Championship for the first time since joining the league in 2019. Notre Dame (Ohio) holds a one-game lead over Concord in the MEC standings, while Ashland and Tiffin are tied for first place in the G-MAC. Assumption enters the weekend with a half-game lead in the NE-10 standings.

• With a win this weekend, the Vulcans would secure the program's 18th-consecutive winning season. Cal boasts the longest active streak of winning seasons in the PSAC with Slippery Rock sitting second in the league with 13-straight years of at least a .500 record. In the PSAC East, Kutztown holds the longest active streak at 12-consecutive winning seasons.

• The Vulcans will recognize a group of 13 seniors this weekend. The senior class has posted a 28-14 overall record with a combined 241 career starts. Record-setting quarterback Noah Mitchell is the team's active leader with 42 career starts and defensive lineman Gerald Brown ranks second on the team with 30 career starts.

• Last week, junior linebacker Noah Dillow registered double-digit tackles for the third time this season and the sixth time in his career. He collected 11 stops and tied his career high with 2.5 TFL, plus registered a forced fumble, against Gannon. A three-year starter, Dillow has already set a career high with 78 tackles this season and is the first player to eclipse 200 career tackles since 2017.

• Junior wide receiver JaQuae Jackson reached the 1,000-yard milestone last week versus Gannon. He is one of only 11 players in the country to have already surpassed the mark this season and also ranks among the top 10 in NCAA Division II with 68 receptions and 11 receiving touchdowns. Jackson is the first 1,000-yard wide receiver for the Vulcans since Tom Greene accomplished the feat in 2017.

• The Vulcans are tied for second in the nation in rushing defense this year, allowing just 55.7 yards per game. Last week, Cal limited Gannon to 40 rushing yards on 24 attempts despite the Golden Knights scoring on a 35-yard touchdown run in the final minutes of the game. The Vulcans have allowed a total of 556 rushing yards this season and only two opponents have gone over the century mark.

• Last weekend, senior wide receiver Cam Tarrant posted a season high with 10 receptions and finished with 76 receiving yards against Gannon. He has totaled a combined 27 catches over the last three games and has already established a career high with 50 receptions this season. Last year, Tarrant registered back-to-back games with at least 11 catches and ranked second on the team with 49 receptions.

• Senior defensive lineman Gerald Brown finished with six tackles, 1.5 TFL and one forced fumble last weekend. He has made at least 1.0 TFL in four-straight games and is tied for second on the team with 9.0 TFL this season. Additionally, Brown sits fifth in school history with 36.5 career TFL and is just 0.5 TFL shy of moving into a tie for third place with current defensive coordinator Jawan Turner.

• This weekend features two of the most consistent kickers in the PSAC with Cal sophomore Anthony Beitko and ESU junior Devin Bartholomew. Beitko leads the league with an .833 field-goal percentage (10-of-12) and ranks second among kickers this year with 68 points. A two-time PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week this year, Bartholomew paces the conference with 78 points behind a PSAC-best 17 field goals.

• As a four-year starter, Noah Mitchell has shattered all of the school's career records for quarterbacks. He sits among the top 10 all-time in PSAC history with 10,518 passing yards - over 1,800 yards more than anyone in school history - and is tied for 11th in league history with 87 touchdown passes - previous school record was 69 scores. Mitchell boasts a 60.0 career completion percentage on over 1,460 attempts.

• Last week, junior Gabe Miller blocked a PAT attempt late in the second quarter against Gannon. It marked his second blocked kick of the season, as he previously blocked a punt at Clarion that resulted in a touchdown. As a linebacker, Miller has set a career high with 6.5 TFL this fall and is within reach of setting a personal best in tackles.
