California falls to Seton Hill on Senior Day, 2-0

Vulcans recognize seven seniors in pregame ceremony; Cal finishes year with 4-11-1 overall record

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 29) – The California (PA) men's soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of first-half goals on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the regular season, as it suffered a 2-0 loss against Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility on Senior Day.

With the loss, the Vulcans finish the year at 4-11-1 overall behind a 2-8 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 8-8-2 this season with a 6-2-2 record in league competition.

Seton Hill applied pressure early in the contest, as it tallied a shot attempt at the 1:21-mark. In the seventh minute, Flecther Amos gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead on a header off an assist from Oscar Heggem. Cal entered the attacking zone and notched a shot on goal from senior Evan Blunkosky (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) at the 13:39-mark. Over the next five-plus minutes, the Griffins posted four attempts with two being placed on net. The Vulcans countered with pressure of their own with a pair of corner kicks and a shot attempt by junior Kobe Norfleet (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) that was blocked. At the 30:50-mark, Amos scored his second goal of the game to extend the lead to a 2-0 margin.

Cal played aggressively in the start of the second half, maintaining possession of the ball and recording a pair of corner kicks, plus a shot attempt, in a 15-minute span. The Griffins mounted pressure as they tallied four shot attempts over seven minutes. The teams traded field position as they struggled to enter the attacking zone until junior Zach Vanek (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) registered an attempt that sailed high of the net in 87th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Payton Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Lincoln) collected three saves while playing 90 minutes for the eighth time this season.

Seton Hill out-shot Cal by a 13-9 margin, while the Vulcans held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
