• The Vulcans held a 21-point lead before holding off a fourth-quarter rally to earn a 21-14 win at Seton Hill on Saturday. Junior Noah Dillow set a career high with 14 tackles and added 1.0 TFL, while sophomore John Hutchinson tallied 11 tackles, 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sack while making his second career start. Senior quarterback Noah Mitchell finished with 239 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Junior wide receiver JaQuae Jackson eclipsed the century mark for the fifth time this year, posing 138 yards and one touchdown on five receptions.

• The Rock has won eight of the last 10 meetings in the series after the Vulcans won five-straight games from 2006-10. However, Cal has won seven of the last nine meetings at Adamson Stadium since 2003.

• After spending two decades as an assistant with the program, Shawn Lutz has posted a 54-15 record in seven seasons as head coach of The Rock. He has led Slippery Rock to three-straight appearances in both the PSAC Championship and NCAA Playoffs from 2018-21. The Rock captured the league and regional title in 2019 while setting the school record with 13 wins.

• Slippery Rock was chosen as the co-preseason favorite in the PSAC West poll despite losing all seven of its All-PSAC West First-Team selections from 2021. The Rock ranks second in the PSAC in scoring offense at 33.6 points per game behind the play of senior quarterback Noah Grover. A transfer from North Dakota, he made four starts last season and ranks second in the PSAC this fall with 1,751 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns. Grover totaled 466 passing yards and four touchdowns against Cal in 2021 while making just his second start with the program. Junior wide receiver Kyle Sheets leads the team with 32 receptions for 449 yards this year, while five other players have posted at least 13 receptions. Slippery Rock also averages nearly 175 rushing yards per game with sophomore Chris D'Or leading the team with 559 rushing yards behind four 100-yard games. The Rock paces the league and ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring defense at 13.0 points per game. Senior linebacker Brandon Tuck-Hayden - a transfer from Wayne State - leads the team with 56 tackles, plus has 9.5 TFL, while classmate Brandon Bischof - a transfer from Akron - has posted 38 stops. A transfer from Fairmont State, senior D.J. Adediwura paces the team with 11.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks while leading the PSAC with 1.21 sacks per game. On special teams, senior Kyle Butts has placed eight punts inside the 20-yard line this year while averaging 37.5 yards on 19 punts.

• Cal hosts Slippery Rock for Homecoming on Saturday for the first time since 2014 when the Vulcans posted a 48-26 upset victory over The Rock, which entered play ranked No. 19 in the country. The Vulcans have won 15 of their last 16 games on Homecoming with their only loss coming in 2018 against Gannon.

• Sophomore linebacker John Hutchinson made his second career start last weekend at Seton Hill. He finished second on the team with 11 tackles after entering play with 12 stops in 16 career games. Hutchinson also registered 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sack in the win over the Griffins. At the scholastic level, he earned Class 6A second-team all-state honors at linebacker while at Neshaminy.

• Last week, senior quarterback Noah Mitchell posted 239 passing yards and two touchdowns in the victory at Seton Hill. He now ranks No. 11 all-time in PSAC history in passing yards and enters the weekend only 219 yards shy of becoming the 10th quarterback in league history to reach 10,000 career passing yards. Mitchell also is tied for No. 14 in PSAC history with 84 passing touchdowns.

• The Vulcans will be playing their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season this weekend. Including this fall, Cal has faced at least a trio of top-25 teams nine times in the last 15 seasons dating back to 2007. The Vulcans hold a 16-11 record at Adamson Stadium against nationally-ranked opponents since 2000 with their last win coming in Week 5 of the 2018 season - a 36-24 victory over then-No. 2 IUP.

• Junior wide receiver JaQuae Jackson registered his fifth 100-yard game of the season last week at Seton Hill, finishing with 138 yards and one touchdown on five receptions. He ranks second in the country with nine receiving touchdowns this year and also sits among the top 10 in the nation with 50 receptions and 788 receiving yards. Jackson is the first wide receiver to eclipse the century mark five times since 2017.

• Cal and Slippery Rock enter the weekend with two of the top scoring and rushing defenses in the PSAC this year. The Rock leads the league in both categories, limiting opponents to 13.0 points and 67.3 rushing yards per game. Meanwhile, the Vulcans sit third in each category, holding opponents to 17.4 points and 68.9 rushing yards per game. The teams have combined to allow just eight rushing touchdowns this season.

Rosensteel ranks sixth in the PSAC this year with an average of 37.0 yards per punt.

• Junior linebacker Noah Dillow established a career high with 14 tackles last week in the win at Seton Hill. • Cal offensive lineman Noel Brouse and Slippery Rock quarterback Noah Grover are the lone representatives from the PSAC as semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy ®, which is the premier scholar-athlete award in college football. Brouse is pursuing a post-graduate certificate after already earning his bachelor's (UConn) and master's degree (Cal), while Grover is pursuing his master's degree.
