• Following a last-second loss in the Coal Bowl, the Vulcans continue PSAC West play at Seton Hill on Saturday. Cal suffered a 22-21 loss to IUP after the Crimson Hawks erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Seton Hill dropped a 40-13 contest against Clarion.
• Cal was in the red zone in the closing seconds against IUP before time expired due to a 10-second runoff following an offensive penalty. Senior quarterback
Noah Mitchell finished with 249 passing yards on 23-of-34 attempts with one touchdown and one interception. The Vulcans limited the Crimson Hawks to a season-low 98 rushing yards on 29 attempts. Junior
Micah Tillman led the team with six tackles and registered one interception and two pass break-ups. Junior linebacker
Gabe Miller added five stops with 2.0 TFL and one fumble recovery.
• The Vulcans have won each of the nine all-time meetings against the Griffins. Cal will be making its first trip to Offutt Field since the 2018 season.
• An alumnus of the program,
Daniel Day is in his fourth season as head coach with the Griffins. He led Seton Hill to a five-win campaign in 2021 which tied for second-most in school history. As a player, Day helped the Griffins post a 10-win season and advance to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs in 2008. He previously served as the head coach at Saint Joseph's (Ind.) for two years.
• Seton Hill is the lone remaining winless team in the league after tying for fifth in the preseason PSAC West poll. The Griffins rank last in the 16-team conference this year in scoring offense, passing offense and total offense. Senior
JaiQuawn McGriff leads the team with 349 rushing yards and three combined touchdowns (one receiving). He has totaled at least 17 carries five times this year, plus has made nine receptions. Graduate student
Eddie Scott and junior
Jake McCormick have split time at quarterback this season. The tandem has combined to posted only 750 passing yards and four touchdowns while completing 40 percent (60-for-151) of their attempts with 14 interceptions - most in the PSAC. Junior
Hezikiah Hawkins leads the team 13 receptions, while classmate
Mark Bails paces the team with 184 receiving yards on nine catches with two touchdowns. Seton Hill ranks fifth in the PSAC in both total defense and passing defense yet allow 29.0 points per game. Graduate student linebacker
Jaylen McDuffie sits fifth in NCAA Division II with 11.0 tackles per game after being an All-PSAC West First-Team selection last year. He has made double-digit stops five times this fall and ranks third in the conference with 11.0 TFL, including 4.5 sacks. Fellow graduate student

Jaden Mack has registered 40 tackles and 9.0 TFL. Seton Hill enters the weekend as most penalized team in the country, averaging 10.83 penalties per game.
• Following last weekend, Cal has suffered three losses this season by a combined nine points with each loss being by five points or less. Additionally, the three opponents (IUP, Kutztown, Shepherd) were picked as co-favorites in their respective divisions in the PSAC and have posted a combined 46-9 mark since the start of last year.
• Junior defensive back
Micah Tillman set a career high with six tackles and registered an interception, plus made two pass break-ups, last week against IUP. He leads the team this season with seven pass break-ups and has made 17 tackles with one interception. Tillman, who started six games last year, has three interceptions while with the Vulcans after playing the 2019 campaign at Urbana.
• Through the opening half of the season, Cal has featured the same group of starting offensive lineman at the exact same positions. Senior
Fritz-Kelly Edmond leads the unit with 24 career starts while shifting to right tackle this fall. Additionally, fellow seniors
Noel Brouse (left tackle) and
Bryce Perkins (center) have started all 16 games since the start of last year.
• The Vulcans feature arguably the toughest schedule in Super Region One this season, as seven opponents currently hold at least a .500 record. Entering the weekend, the winning percentage for Cal's 11 opponents is a staggering .569 clip with Shepherd and IUP both boasting undefeated marks. In comparison, the opponents for the Vulcans last year finished the regular season with a 45-73 record (.381).
• At the midway point of the season, Cal leads the PSAC and ranks seventh in the country in rushing defense at 62.5 yards per game. The Vulcans have faced two of the top rushing offenses in the league over the last two weeks and have allowed a combined 154 rushing yards on 67 attempts. Overall, Cal has yielded just 2.1 yards per carry this season with only one opponent eclipsing the century mark on the ground.
• Senior quarterback
Noah Mitchell finished with 249 passing yards and one touchdown last week against IUP. He now ranks No. 13 all-time in PSAC history with 9,542 passing yards and could move past a pair of quarterbacks tied at No. 11 this weekend. A two-time All-PSAC West selection, Mitchell has posted 732 passing yards with 10 touchdowns in three previous career meetings against Seton Hill.
• Senior defensive lineman
Gerald Brown enters the weekend tied for sixth all-time in school history with 31.0 TFL and is just 0.5 TFL behind All-American
Willie Walker for fifth place. Brown has posted 20 tackles, 3.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks while making four starts this year. He paced the team with 16.5 TFL and 8.0 sacks while being an all-region honoree as a sophomore in 2019.
• Last weekend, senior wide receiver
Cam Tarrant became the No. 14 player since 2002 to record at least 100 receptions in a career. He led the team with five catches for 67 yards against IUP, plus tied his career long with a 33-yard reception. In 2021, Tarrant made 11 receptions in the road victory over the Crimson Hawks. The Penn Hills product ranks second on the team this fall with 20 receptions after posting 49 catches last year.
• Sophomore kicker
Anthony Beitko ranks second in the PSAC among kickers this season with 44 points on six field goals and 26 PAT attempts. In only 16 career games, he already ranks sixth all-time in school history with 22 field-goals made and has converted 88.0 percent (22-of-25) of his field-goal attempts. Additionally, Beitko has made 64-of-65 PAT attempts and accounted for 130 career points.
• The Vulcans pace the league and rank No. 11 in NCAA Division II with an average of 3.50 sacks per game. Cal has totaled 21.0 sacks this year that have resulted in negative-149 rushing yards. Freshman linebacker
Ibrahim Sanogo leads the team with 4.0 sacks - all in the last four weeks - and fellow linebackers
Matt Tobey and
Josh Miller both have registered 3.0 sacks this fall.
• Despite being held to season lows in catches and yards last weekend, junior wide receiver
JaQuae Jackson continues to lead the PSAC with 45 receptions and eight receiving touchdowns. He ranks second in the league and No. 10 in the nation with 650 receiving yards behind four games of at least 100 yards. Over the last two seasons, Jackson has posted nearly 1,400 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns on 103 catches.
• Cal leads the PSAC and sits among the top 15 in the country this year with a .917 red-zone percentage (22-for-24). The Vulcans have scored 16 touchdowns (eight rushing, eight passing) from inside the opponents' 20 yard line. Meanwhile, Seton Hill has scored only two touchdowns (both rushing) on nine trips inside the red zone this season.
