CALIFORNIA (Sept. 4) – The Vulcans were blanked by a 4-0 count against Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon while opening the season at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team opens the year with a 0-1 mark for the first time since 2017. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles improves to 2-0 overall with both victories against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West members.
Lock Haven seized a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Josei Swartz scored on a penalty kick. The Vulcans managed to keep the Bald Eagles from extending the lead through the remainder first half despite Lock Haven attempting eight shots.
After halftime, Hunter McClellan scored twice in a span of five minutes to stretch the lead to 3-0 at the 52:26-mark. Lock Haven added to the lead in the 76th minute when Swartz collected her second assist of the game on a goal by Anna Manley.
Freshman
Emily Ouimet (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) finished with five saves while playing all 90 minutes on Saturday.
The Bald Eagles finished with a 13-4 shot advantage and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U opens divisional play on Wednesday, Sept. 8, when it hosts IUP at 6 p.m.
