Cal U downed at Slippery Rock, 3-1

Blunkosky scores opening goal, first of the year; Zabilowicz tallies five saves in contest

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Sept. 29) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team scored the opening goal on Wednesday afternoon before dropping a 3-1 contest at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-5-1 this season with a 1-1 mark in divisional action. Meanwhile, The Rock improves to 4-2-2 overall while starting league play on Wednesday.

Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when junior Evan Blunkosky (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) scored his first goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Cullin Woytovich (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi). The Rock tied the score less than three minutes later on a goal by Artur Pla Hernandis at the 16:33-mark. Slippery Rock claimed the lead in the 28th minute Mo Kanani notched his third goal of the year.

Midway through the second half, the Vulcans pressured the net with three shots in just over a minute. Slippery Rock was whistled for an offside in the 78th minute before adding an insurance goal two minute later when Alex Limmer scored off a pass from Pla Hernandis.

Junior Trevor Zabilowicz (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) collected five saves while playing all 90 minutes.

Slippery Rock held a 15-9 advantage in shots after tallying 10 attempts in the first half. The Rock also posted an 8-4 edge in corner kicks in the victory.

The Vulcans return to action with a four-game homestand, starting on Saturday, Oct. 2, against Gannon at 1 p.m.
