EDINBORO, Pa. (Sept. 15) – The Vulcans played a 'man down' for nearly 40 minutes on Wednesday night and forced No. 16 Edinboro to double-overtime before suffering a 1-0 loss in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at Sox Harrison Stadium.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team drops to 0-4 on the season with a 0-3 mark in divisional play. The Vulcans have dropped a pair of 1-0 games to nationally-ranked teams over the last week. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league action after advancing to the 2019 PSAC Championship.
In the first half, Edinboro was aggressive offensively by totaling four shots and three corner kicks in the opening 14 minutes of action. The two teams combined for 13 shots and five corner kicks in the first half on Wednesday.
In the second half, the Fighting Scots continued to pressure the net with three shots in the initial five minutes, two of which were saved by freshman goalkeeper
Emily Ouimet (Berwick, Pa./Berwick). Midway through the second half, the Vulcans were forced to play a 'man down' after having a player receive her second yellow card of the contest.. Despite being down a player, Cal U was able to thwart the Edinboro attack with Ouimet being credited with six saves in the period and the game was forced into overtime.
Late in the second overtime, Maggie Hays placed a cross from the right ride of the box to the back left corner of the net to secure the victory.
Ouimet finished with a season-high 12 saves while playing the entire game on Wednesday night.
Edinboro finished with a 24-5 shot advantage and held a 13-3 edge in shots on goal.
The Vulcans are idle for over a week before hosting Gannon in divisional action on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
