Tennis falls against Slippery Rock, 7-0

Cal U closes season with two wins, finishes sixth in PSAC West standings

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 21) – The Vulcans closed the season with a 7-0 loss against Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at Roadman Park on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team finishes the year with a 2-7 overall record and a 1-5 mark in divisional action. Meanwhile, The Rock extends its winning streak to four matches and improves to 8-5 this season while closing league play with a 5-1 record.

Slippery Rock captured the doubles point after winning all three matches on Tuesday. At the first position, senior Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorar) and junior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) suffered a 6-0 loss to Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and Gabi del Val del Toro. Freshmen Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) dropped a 6-0 match at second doubles against Amy Varckette and Olivia Warner, while senior Laura Vargas (Bogota, Colombia/Siglo XXI) and junior Julia McDaniel (South Park, Pa./South) fell by a 6-4 count against Lauren Fadden and Lindsey Fadden.

The Rock completed the match victory by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Vargas dropped a 6-0, 6-1 contest at the first position to Gonzalez Sanchez and Winseck suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to del Val del Toro at the second slot. Gallagher fell by a 6-2, 6-1 margin at third singles to Warner, while Duran dropped a 6-1, 7-5 match against Lauren Fadden at the fourth position. Feltenberger was blanked by a 6-0, 6-0 count at the fifth slot by Varckette and junior Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss at sixth singles against Lindsey Fadden.
