CLEVELAND, Ohio (Nov. 20) – The Vulcans qualified 14 entries for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships over the weekend while competing at the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State.
The California University of Pennsylvania swimming team placed 10th at the event with 42 points. Akron claimed the invitational title with 1769.5 points, while Ohio finished second with 1377.5 points and Duquesne placed third in the team standings with 103.2 points. The three-day event at Busbey Natatorium featured 11 teams, including four NCAA Division II programs.
On Thursday, the Vulcans qualified five entries for the league meet in the 50 freestyle with sophomore
Gabby Miller (York, Pa./Central York) qualifying for the 'D' finals. She posted a season-best time of 24.38 seconds in the preliminaries before touching the wall in 24.40 seconds in the finals.

Antonia Gheorghita (Windsor, Ontario/St. Joseph's Catholic) placed second on the team in the event with a time of 25.60 seconds and junior
Rachel Kennedy (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) registered a time of 25.86 seconds, which improved her season-best time by over one full second. Senior
Megan Beam (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) touched the wall in 25.89 seconds and freshman
Emily Guffey (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with a time of 26.60 seconds.
Cal U established a pair of season-best marks in relay events on Thursday while in Ohio. The 200 freestyle relay of Beam, Gheorghita, Kennedy and Miller posted a time of 1 minute, 42.02 seconds, which was over three seconds faster than its previous best this year. Avrey Barnes (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette), Guffey and Miller registered a time of 4:08.80, which was an 11-plus second improvement on its season-best mark.
Freshman
Madison Moretti (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) reached the PSAC-qualifying standard in the 500 freestyle after touching the wall in 5:23.66.
On Friday, Gheorghita and Miller both posted league-qualifying times in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke during the preliminary session. Miller trimmed over two seconds off her season-best mark in the 100 butterfly after recording a time of 59.80 seconds, while Gheorghita finished with a time of 1:00.63 in the event. Miller tallied a time of 1:01.31 in the 100 backstroke and Gheorghita improved her personal best by over two seconds with a time of 1:01.67.
Barnes qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100 breaststroke after finishing with a time of 1:11.12. In the 200 freestyle, Moretti reached the league standard by touching the wall in 1:59.63 and Kennedy also posted a conference-qualifying time of 2:00.46.
The Vulcans improved their season-best time in the 200 medley relay by over six seconds, as Gheorghita, Barnes, Guffey and Miller finished with a time of 1:52.33. The 800 freestyle relay of Kennedy, Miller, Gheorghita and Guffey posted a time of 8:12.67 while in Cleveland.
On Saturday, Miller reached the PSAC-qualifying mark in the 100 freestyle and set a season-best time of 52.96 seconds in the 'D' finals of the event. She also advanced to the 'B' finals of the 100 IM with a time of 1:02.52.
Cal U set a season-best mark in the 400 freestyle relay while in Ohio with Gheorghita, Moretti, Kennedy and Miller registering a time of 3:39.82.

Autumn Christner (East McKeesport, Pa./East Allegheny), Kennedy and senior
Abbie Reichelderfer (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) qualified for the 'C' finals of the 100 IM during the final day of the Magnus Cup. In the 50 backstroke, Beam advanced to the 'B' finals of the event.
The Vulcans are now idle from competition for nearly two months before hosting a two-day invitational against Kutztown and Lock Haven on Jan. 14-15.
