Hudanick chosen Campbell Trophy semifinalist

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 5) – California University of Pennsylvania senior offensive lineman Eric Hudanick (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) was recently named a semifinalist for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda.

The Campbell Trophy, which is presented by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF), recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

Hudanick is one of 20 players from NCAA Division II, including just two from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and an all-time record 199 collegiate players across all NCAA and NAIA levels to be named a semifinalist for the award.

The NFF Awards Committee will select between 12 and 14 finalists in November and the finalists will each receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship while being recognized as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. Later this year, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 31st Campbell Trophy and have their scholarship increased to $25,000, plus receive a 25-pound version of the iconic statue.

In order to be considered for the Campbell Trophy, nominees must be seniors or graduate students in their final year of eligibility and carry a minimum of a 3.20 grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. In addition, the committee names only those who are significant contributors to their team and those who demonstrate leadership and citizenship.

Hudanick is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in finance. He holds a 3.54 cumulative GPA and is scheduled to graduate in December.

A Seneca Valley product, Hudanick has appeared in all 34 games of his career and ranks second among active players on the team with 32 career starts. He started 10 games at left tackle as a true freshman before transitioning to right tackle in 2018 and has started all 22 games over the last two seasons.

Hudanick was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team last year. Additionally, he has received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award in each of his two years eligible for the honor, plus has earned PSAC Scholar-Athlete status in each of the previous thee seasons.

The Vulcans have featured a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy three times in the last five years.
