EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Vulcans suffered a 3-0 loss at Edinboro on Saturday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team drops to 3-9 this season with a 2-9 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 9-2-2 overall and rank second in the divisional standings with 29 points behind a 9-0-2 record in conference action.
Edinboro attempted the initial shot of the game before Cal U countered with a shot on target in the ninth minute and a corner kick just 30 seconds later. At the midway point of the first half, the Fighting Scots attempted five shots and placed two on net within a 10-minute span. Edinboro scored the opening goal of the game in the 40th minute when Leah Czechowski placed the ball into the right side net.

Carly Gobbie (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny) stopping each attempt. Cal U later registered a pair of shots in just over a minute with junior
Kellie Lynch (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) placing the ball on net. Edinboro stretched the lead to 2-0 at the 64:58-mark when Jessica Frank scored her fourth goal of the season off a rebound. Gobbie then saved a pair of shots by Czechowski in the next two minutes before the Fighting Scots scored an insurance goal in the 84th minute.
Gobbie tallied six saves and faced 10 shots while playing only the second half on Saturday. Junior
Gianna Sinatra (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) made the start and posted three saves prior to halftime.
Edinboro finished the game with an 18-4 shot advantage after placing 12 shots on goal. The Fighting Scots also posted a 3-1 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26, when it hosts Gannon on Alumni Day with play starting at 3:30 p.m.
