CALIFORNIA (Oct. 6) – Playing in their second dual match in as many days, the Vulcans collected a 5-2 victory versus Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play on Saturday afternoon at Roadman Park.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 4-2 this season after facing a pair of league opponents this weekend. Meanwhile, the Marauders drop to 2-4 overall after playing two matches in three days.
The Vulcans opened the afternoon by claiming two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At the first position, freshmen
Jo Weisen (Bereldange, Luxembourg/Sportlycee) and
Tanya Madhok (Mumbai, India/Jamnabai Narsee) posted a 7-5 victory against Megan Rovenolt and Jasmine Morris. Freshman
Carolin Ganahl (Grafing, Germany/Gymnasium Grafing) and senior
Elizabeth Wohar (California, Pa./California) registered a 6-4 win over Corinne Grohoski and Sophie May at the second slot. At third doubles, juniors
Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) and
McKenzie Wilson (Traralgon, Australia/St. Paul's Anglican) suffered a 6-2 loss versus Victoria Hanus and Kelsey Heckert.
Cal U clinched the match victory in league crossover play by winning four singles matches on Saturday. Weisen return to the first position and secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Morris, while Ganahl shifted back to second singles and posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against Rovenolt. In the third slot, Madhok battled to a straight-set victory 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over Heckert, while Wohar fell at the fourth position by a 6-4, 0-6, 10-3 count versus Hanus. Freshman
Emilee Leydig (Windber, Pa./Windber) dropped a 6-2, 6-0 match to Grohoski in the fifth singles. Gallagher claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at the sixth slot against May.
The Vulcans return to action Thursday, Oct. 11, when they travel to face Davis & Elkins in non-conference play, starting at 3 p.m.
