NOTES
• Cal U continues its homestand by hosting Cheyney in PSAC Crossover play on Saturday afternoon. The Vulcans claimed a 36-34 victory at Adamson Stadium last Thursday over Ohio Dominican. Meanwhile, the Wolves scored 56-unanswered points in a 56-28 win over Lincoln on Saturday.

• Senior Michael Keir passed for nearly 400 yards and classmate Will Brazill made a 25-yard field goal in the final minute of regulation to lift Cal U to a 36-34 win over Ohio Dominican last week. Keir set a career high with 398 passing yards on 36-of-51 attempts while nearly posting the program's first 400-yard game since 2014. Senior linebacker Luke Hrapchak and junior defensive back Brendan Edwards tied for the team lead with nine tackles. Cal U, which was flagged for zero penalties in the win, finished with over an 11-minute advantage in time of possession.

• The Vulcans have won the last 16 meetings in the series, which started in 1972 with a win by the Wolves. Cal U is playing Cheyney for a consecutive season after previously not facing each other since 2011.

• In his second stint as head coach of the Wolves, Chris Roulhac holds a 2-21 mark since taking over the program in 2015. He helped the Wolves snap a 43-game losing streak in the season-opener last season. Roulhac previously served as head coach at Cheyney from 1992-94 and posted 3-30 record during that time behind nearly 1,750 rushing yards in 1993 by Keith Higdon.

• Last week, Cheyney snapped a 10-game losing streak dating back to last year's season-opener with a 56-28 victory over Lincoln. The win also snapped a 32-game home losing streak for the Wolves and solidified back-to-back seasons with at least one victory for the first time since 2011-12. Senior quarterback Dominick Trautz accounted for a school-record six touchdowns (one rushing) to help the Wolves take a 56-0 lead at halftime. Trautz completed touchdown passes to four different players after the team totaled just three touchdown passes last year. Junior Kyle Berlin made a pair of touchdown receptions last week, while redshirt freshman Brandon Joyner and senior Nigel Wiley combined for over 100 receiving yards and two scores. Senior Brandon French posted 79 rushing yards and one touchdown last week after combining for almost 700 rushing yards over the previous two years. Defensively, senior defensive lineman Keyson Dingle recorded 5.0 TFL and 2.0 sacks against Lincoln after recording 57 tackles and 10.5 TFL last season. Senior linebacker Jamiel Hines, who posted eight tackles and 2.0 TFL last week, also returns after pacing the team with 81 stops and 11.5 TFL during the 2016 campaign. On special teams, freshman kicker Alexander Rummel converted all eight of the PAT attempts last week to set a school record. Senior Brendyn Van Demark returns after averaging 33.9 yards on a league-high 69 punts last season.

• The Vulcans climbed three spots to No. 5 in the AFCA Top 25 poll this week, marking the program's highest ranking since being No. 3 on Oct. 18, 2010. Cal U has been featured in the national rankings for 11-consecutive polls dating back to last season. Last week, four of the top-10 teams in the preseason Top 25 poll suffered losses with three losing to fellow nationally-ranked programs.

• In last week's win, Cal U impressively avoided being whistled for any penalties while Ohio Dominican was issued 10 penalties for nearly 100 yards. The Vulcans, who averaged almost 10.5 penalties and over 90.0 penalty yards per game last year, last achieved the feat of no penalties in a game during the third round of the 2008 NCAA Playoffs in a 27-24 win at Bloomsburg.

• Senior Michael Keir set several career highs last week in the season-opener against Ohio Dominican. He finished with 398 passing yards on 36-of-51 attempts, all career highs, with two touchdowns and no turnovers. The 398 passing yards are tied for the seventh-highest total in single-game school history. Keir is the first quarterback to total at least 30 completions and 50 attempts in a game since Peter Lalich at Kutztown in 2012.

• Seniors Tom Greene and Luke Smorey, along with junior Jordan Dandridge, combined for 27 receptions and over 300 receiving yards last week with each player tallying at least eight receptions. It marked the first time in over a decade in which three players made at least eight catches in a game. Dandridge, Greene and Smorey each set a career high in receptions with Smorey leading all players with 10 catches.

• Last week, the Vulcans featured a combined five first-time starters in the win over Ohio Dominican. Cal U featured a pair of first-time starters on the offensive line in freshman Eric Hudanick at left tackle and redshirt freshman Brenden Badstibner at left guard. On defense, the trio of strong safety Vincent Alimenti, free safety Bryant Harper and defensive end Acantay Patton made their first career starts.

• Cal U and Ohio Dominican combined for over 950 yards of total offense last week, however, both teams were held under 100 rushing yards. The Vulcans were limited to 54 rushing yards on 25 attempts and the Panthers managed 83 rushing yards on 30 carries. The last time Cal U played in a game in which both teams were held under the century mark on the ground was the 2015 season-opener at Virginia State.

• The Vulcans recorded a safety early in the third quarter during last week's win over Ohio Dominican and those two points were the difference in the final score. The Panthers were forced to start a drive from their 1-yard line following a 51-yard punt by Michael Keir. On the second play of the drive, junior defensive lineman Malik Akins tackled the ball carrier in the end zone. The last time Cal U recorded a safety was against Cheyney in Week 2 last year.

• Senior wide receiver Tom Greene recorded the first 100-yard game of his career in the season-opener against Ohio Dominican. He led all players with 158 yards on eight receptions behind a pair of 20-plus yard catches. Last year, Greene ranked second on the team with 717 receiving yards and 51 catches in his first season as a starter. The Woodland Hills product has posted at least 50 receiving yards in each of his last eight games.

• Cal U will feature four players on active NFL rosters at the start of the season this weekend. In the AFC, Erik Harris recently signed with Oakland after being waived by New Orleans, while Rontez Miles returns to the New York Jets. C.J. Goodwin opens the year with Atlanta and Dewey McDonald will be back with Seattle, while Eric Kush suffered a season-ending injury in training camp and is on injured reserve with Chicago.

• Senior Will Brazill made the eventual, game-winning 25-yard field goal last week with 49 seconds left in the fourth quarter. He also made a 32-yard field goal against Ohio Dominican in the closing seconds of the first half. Brazill has now converted a pair of game-winning field goals in the final minute of regulation over the last two years, as he made a 39-yard kick with 55 seconds left against IUP in the 2016 Coal Bowl.

• Since 2004, Cal U holds a combined 31-10 record against PSAC East opponents. The Vulcans have won eight of their last 10 meetings versus the Eastern Division with their last loss coming in 2015 against Bloomsburg. Cheyney is making its first trip to Adamson Stadium since suffering a 57-6 loss to close the 2013 regular season.

• In addition to posting nearly 400 passing yards, senior Michael Keir also averaged 43.2 yards on four punts in the season-opener. He placed two of his punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded a long punt of 56 yards. Keir has averaged 37.6 yards per punt in his career while serving as a punting option since the 2015 season. The Philadelphia native has recorded four 50-plus yard punts with a career long of 58 as a sophomore.
