Men's Soccer falls at No. 9 Millersville, 2-0

Marauders record game-winner in the 18th minute; Exner posts six saves

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss at No. 9 Millersville on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 1-7 overall with a 1-3 mark in league action. Meanwhile, the Marauders improve to 7-1-1 this season behind a 3-1-1 record in conference play.

Cal U recorded the first shot of the game at the 2:42-mark when junior Eric Campbell (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) saw his chance saved by the Millersville keeper. Senior Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) registered a save in the eighth minute off a header from junior Chase Flickinger. The Marauders scored at the 17:07-mark for the initial goal of the game from senior Ahmed Qaisi, while Flickinger notch an assist. Campbell nearly equalized late in the first half, but his header was saved by goalie. Millersville went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage, while holding an 8-4 shot advantage, in addition to a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans tallied three shots to open the second half, as they attempted to level the game. Freshman Ismael Garcia (Valladolid, Spain/IES Emilio Ferrari) registered a shot at the 57:06-mark but the Marauder goalie came up with another save. Millersville tallied a second goal in the 87th minute off a rebound by freshman Matteo Adiletta, who scored his fourth goal of the season.

Exner finished the game with six saves, including five in the second half, while playing the full 90 minutes.

The Marauders out-shot Cal U by a 17-10 margin, while the Vulcans held a 7-5 edge on corner kicks

Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when it host Urbana (Ohio) in non-conference play at 6 p.m.
