Vulcans dealt loss versus East Stroudsburg, 9-0

Warriors score five goals in 28-minute span during first half

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 22) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer suffered a 9-0 loss to East Stroudsburg on Friday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
 
With the loss, the Vulcans dropped to 1-5-1 overall with a 1-4-1 record in conference action. Meanwhile, the three-time, defending-PSAC Champion Warriors improve to 4-2-1 on the season behind a 4-2-0 mark in the league.
 
East Stroudsburg controlled possession of the ball early in the first half, as senior goalkeeper Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) came up with two saves in the opening minutes. The Warriors got on the board in the 10th minute when sophomore Jules Sicker found the back of the net giving the visiting side a 1-0 advantage. ESU remained on the attack as it tallied four more goals over a 25-minute span to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Sophomore Hannah Saggese assisted on all five goals in the first half, as she set a school record and was one assist shy of the NCAA Division II single-game record. East Stroudsburg held a 14-0 shot advantage after the opening 45 minutes, in addition to a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
 
Freshman Gianna Sinatra (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) entered the game after halftime to mark her second appearance in goal this season. The Warriors notched three more goals in early in the second half, as Sicker registered a hat trick by scoring in the 53rd and 59th minutes. The Vulcans had their best scoring chance at the 66:47-mark when a shot from senior Francesca Scenna (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) sailed just over the crossbar. Sophomore Reilly McGlumphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) entered the game at goalie in the 76th minute, making her first college appearance in net after playing in the field as a freshman.
 
The Vulcan goalkeepers combined for eight totals saves with Colon leading the team with five saves in 45 minutes of action.
 
East Stroudsburg finished the contest with a 23-3 advantage in shots and held a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
 
The Vulcans continue PSAC play on Sunday, Sept. 24, when they travel to face Seton Hill in nearby Greensburg, Pennsylvania, at 1 p.m.
