EDINBORO, Pa. (April 10) – The Vulcans tallied 28 hits and scored a combined 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep at Edinboro on Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play, posting a 8-0 run-rule victory in Game 1 and a 10-3 win in Game 2.
With the sweep, the California University of Pennsylvania softball team improves to 14-10 overall and 5-3 in league action. Meanwhile, Edinboro falls to 11-12 this season with a 3-5 mark in divisional play.
In Game 1, the Vulcans set a season high with 16 hits with five players recording multi-hit games. Junior shortstop
Emily Price (Warren, Ohio/Howland) and freshman third baseman
Paige Wilson (Warren, Pa./Warren) both reached base safely in all four plate appearances. Price went 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, while Wilson finished 3-for-3 with one run scored. Sophomore left fielder
Logan Blake (Jordan Station, Ontario/Bishop Ridley) posted three hits and two runs scored, while junior first baseman
Hailey Wilson (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy) and junior catcher
Kaylyn Roose (Akron, Ohio/Revere) both collected two hits and one run scored.
Cal U stranded runners on the corners in the top of the third before taking a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Roose led off the fourth with a double before the Vulcans loaded the bases on a single and walk with two outs. Price then delivered a two-run single to left field. Cal U left two runners in scoring position in the fifth before sealing the victory with six runs in the top of the sixth. Blake opened the inning with an infield single and later advanced to third on a single by Price. Junior center fielder
Jacquelyn Fowler (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) followed with a three-run homer, her third of the year.

Megan Jahoda (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) then collected back-to-back doubles. Following a pitching change,
Hailey Wilson and Blake later registered a two-out RBI single.
Senior
Portia McBride (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout to improve to 4-3 this season. She also recorded eight strikeouts and issued one walk over 6.0 innings on Monday. Edinboro starter Carley Nasca (3-4) suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs (all earned) on 13 hits and three walks in 5.1 innings.
In Game 2, Fowler and Jahoda both reached base in all four plate appearances, as the Vulcans collected 12 hits in the victory. Jahoda went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Fowler finished 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored.
Hailey Wilson tallied a pair of hits and Price scored two runs from the leadoff spot.
The Fighting Scots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Vulcans countered with four runs in the third. Cal U started the rally with three-straight singles before Jahoda belted a two-run homer, her first of the year. The Vulcans then scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth to stretch the lead to 10-2. In the fifth, Fowler led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly before
Hailey Wilson followed with an RBI double. Sophomore
Taylor Robblee (Woodstock, Ontario/College Avenue) then lined an RBI single to center field. Cal U added three insurance runs in the sixth after the first three batters in the inning reached safely with Fowler tallying an RBI single. Following a pitching change, Jahoda delivered an RBI double before Fowler scored on a ground-out.
Robblee (3-2) earned the win after yielding one run (unearned) on two hits without issuing a walk in 3.1 innings of relief. Edinboro starter Kalet Lenart (4-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
The Vulcans return to action on Friday, April 14, when they travel to play a doubleheader against Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 3 p.m.
