Levi Krause (East Berlin, Pa./Spring Grove), on Sunday night in a 14-4 victory against Kutztown.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team improves to 4-7 this season. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears fall to 7-5 overall.
Krause collected his third-straight, multi-hit game, finishing 3-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored. Junior shortstop
Austin Logan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and one walk, while sophomore left fielder
Eric Fairman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) tallied three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Junior second baseman
Garrett Brooks (Connellsville, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) collected two hits and scored twice from the leadoff spot and sophomore center fielder
Nico Marchetti (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) also scored two runs in the victory.
Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly before scoring on a wild pitch in the third. In the fourth, the Vulcans loaded the bases on back-to-back walks and a single by Brooks before Krause followed with a single. The Golden Bears then made a pitching change before redshirt senior first baseman
David Marcus (Whitby, Ontario/Father Leo J. Austin) drew a bases-loaded walk. Following a sacrifice fly, Fairman later collected an RBI single before Logan added a two-run single with two outs. Marchetti and Brooks then both reached on a hit by pitch before Krause belted a grand slam, his eighth career homer.
The Vulcans stretched the lead to 14-0 in the fifth following three-straight, two-out singles with Fairman scoring from second on a single by Logan. Kutztown answered with three runs in the top of the seventh before hitting a solo homer in the ninth inning.
Junior
Neil Dudley (Odenton, Md./Chesapeake) earned the win to improve to 1-1 this year, allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits in 6.1 innings. He also registered seven strikeouts without allowing a walk while making his fourth start of the season. Senior
Joe Yourgal (Millersville, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) yielded one run (earned) on two hits and one walk over 2.2 innings of relief. Kutztown starter Kurtis Hultz (1-1) suffered the loss after surrendering six runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks in 3.0-plus innings.
Cal U returns to action in North Carolina on Tuesday, March 14, when it faces Fairmont State for the second time in four days at 2 p.m.
