CALIFORNIA (Jan. 14) – Junior forward
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) led five players in double-digits with 21 points on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 8 Vulcans earned an 83-68 win over Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Convocation Center.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 16-1 overall record. The Vulcans are now in a three-way tie with IUP and Mercyhurst for second place in the PSAC West standings with a 10-1 league mark. Meanwhile, the Griffins fall to 10-7 this season behind a 6-5 record in conference play.
Barrett recorded her fifth 20-point game of the season and her first since Nov. 22. She finished with 21 points on 9-of-14 attempts from the floor and also tallied six rebounds and four steals while playing 38 minutes. Barrett is averaging a career-high 17.6 points per game this season while shooting 61.7 percent (116-of-188) from the field.

Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) scored 18 points against the Griffins and collected five rebounds, six assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes. Junior
Shatara Parsons (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) posted 13 points, nine rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks, while senior
Lana Doran (Northamptonshire, England/Barking Abbey) recorded 12 points, four rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) scored 11 points behind three three-pointers in only 13 minutes off the bench.
The Griffins scored the opening two baskets of the game before the Vulcans tallied 10-straight points to take a 10-4 lead on a layup by Barrett with 6:23 left in the first quarter. Cal U eventually took a 16-9 lead at the end of the quarter when sophomore
Morgan Jennings (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored on a jumper at the buzzer. Seton Hill started the second quarter with seven-unanswered points to tie the score at 16-16 with 8:02 remaining before halftime. The Vulcans responded with a 12-5 run over nearly three minutes to reclaim the lead at 28-21 when Barrett converted a three-point play with 5:19 left in the second quarter. Seton Hill eventually worked the deficit down to 33-31 at halftime.
Cal U started the third quarter with 12-straight points to stretch the lead to 45-31 at the 6:07-mark, as Seton Hill missed three shots and committed four turnovers during that span. The Griffins trimmed the deficit to 10 points, 49-39, before the Vulcans responded with six-straight points and later took a 58-43 lead at the end of the quarter. Cal U eventually led by as many 23 points, 76-53, with 3:55 left in the game before finishing with the 83-68 victory.
The Vulcans shot 50 percent (34-of-68) from the floor and made 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Griffins posted a .435 field-goal percentage (27-of-62) behind a 46.2 clip from three-point territory (6-of-13). Cal U held a 38-35 rebounding advantage and scored 48 points from inside the paint. The Vulcans forced 21 turnovers in the victory and scored 24 points off turnovers.
Junior Jenna Kaufman scored 20 points on 9-of-21 shooting in the loss. Senior Alexandria Deep finished with 14 points off the bench, while junior Alexandra Hay posted 13 points, six assists and three steals.
Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when it travels to face IUP at 5:30 p.m.
