Cal U falls in final minute to Bloomsburg, 1-0

Jayes records eight saves in losing effort; Vulcans drop fourth-straight contest by one goal

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 24) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon after allowing the game-winning goal with only 45 seconds left in regulation at the Philipsburg Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-5-2 this season with all eight games in league play. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg improves to 4-2-2 overall behind a 3-2-2 mark in conference action.

After not recording any shots in a scoreless first half, the Vulcans came out of the second half and recorded the initial two shots of the second half. The Huskies came back with a few scoring chances before finally breaking through in the final minute when freshman Megan Callan scored her seond goal of the season off a through ball from the left side with assists to Jessica Supp and Rachel Yenney.

Senior goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) tallied eight saves in the loss, while Bloomsburg sophomore goalkeeper Devon Haviland recorded the shutout victory.

Bloomsburg finished the game with a sizable 14-2 shot advantage after attempting eight shots in the second half. The Huskies also posted a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, with its lone non-conference game of the year when it travels to face West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
